Diploma in Audio Engineering - Overview

The Diploma in Audio Engineering offers students the opportunity to study all aspects of audio engineering. It is designed to train future professionals for the audio and media industries. Practical classes and hands-on studio time are supported by theoretical classes, giving students thorough knowledge of a broad range of audio related issues. Successful completion of the diploma level gives graduates the possibility to continue their studies towards a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Recording Arts.

All practical times are individually bookable, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Students therefore can choose the times that best suit their schedules.

Aims

Graduates of the Diploma in Audio Engineering are able to operate a wide range of professional industry standard equipment, studio effects processors, operate analogue and digital consoles and hard disc recording systems. Graduates will also learn mixdown techniques, studio procedures, production techniques, basic studio acoustics and business. Graduates that have gained this qualification have recorded and mixed several music productions, completed a comprehensive post production project, programmed MIDI arrangements and worked extensively with SSL AWS900 recording consoles, ProTools and other digital editing systems.

  • 12 months full-time
  • 18 months Part-time

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of O-levels of the secondary school or equivalent; and
  • Mature age of over 17 years;

For international students:

  • IELTS overall band score 6.0 or above; or
  • TOEFL overall grade of 550 or above (paper-based); or
  • TOEFL overall grade of 213 or above (computer-based); or
  • TOEFL overall grade of 79 or above (internet-based); or
  • A high school transcript showing proof of satisfactory English to year 10 or higher.

Intake dates

  • Commencement Dates Full Time: April; July; October
  • Commencement Dates Part Time: April; September

Degree Pathway

After successful completion of the SAE Institute Diploma, students are able to continue their studies to the degree level. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) In Recording Arts degree is issued in partnership with Middlesex University.
